Thought I would take a break from all this Gyaru hair stuff and post up some beginner type gyaru makeup tutorials for those who want some instruction on gyaru makeup.
Before you begin you will need some gyaru makeup basic items, below you will see a recommended item to get you started. Where possible I highlight Japanese products although you can always find a similar western equivalent too.
1) Eye shadow
If you are new start with any basic browns pack. 3 to 4 shades is enough. From a dark brown to a lighter skin white is more than adequate.2) Eye liner / Eye Pencil
I would recommend gel eyeliners for the newbies, it is fairly forgiving to those with shaky hands trying it for the first time. Unfortunately Amazon do not seem like they stock Japanese gel eyeliners at the moment, however this Korean one gets a thumbs up from friends. 3) Eyelash curler
You want to pump up those sad droopy lashes and really pump them so they stand up at a good angle from your face otherwise the eyelashes will not pop up enough. Any will do, but you want to get a curved one as its easier to use I find. Here is a Koji one. Also remember that you may have to change the little plastic bit on one side of the curler when it starts to get used up a bit. 4) Mascara
You want long lasting mascara that will add a lot of volume for night time, and you want finer lashes during the day. Have a look at something like this. Koji have a wider variety to suit any occasion. KOJI LASH SPECIALIST MASCARA LONG & SEPARATE REAL BLACK List Price: unavailable Sale Price: $16.99 |
5) Stick on Eyelashes
Beware of cheapies, they fall off. Nothing worse than one eyelash hanging down half stuck across your eye lids without you realising! If you are out and clubbing, you will not realize after one-or two- or three+ drinks ;p Stick on eyelashes (tsukema) come in a lot of shapes and sizes, lengths, glinter or no glinter. You can also find ones that you cut and stick along the bottom of your lashes. The fun is in experimenting and seeing what you find comfortable with. For the moment you can safely adventure out with these, you can see they are the exact same as recommended by Ranzuki in the magazine scan. Gyaru Makeup Tutorial Style Points
- Apply eye liner and eyeshadow on the bottom eyes, a common beginner mistake is too try and use to much and end up looking like a kabuki stage actor. If you dont know what that is… its a bad thing. So remember for gyaru startes it is best to use very sparingly for this beginner gyaru look.
- As you decide which gyaru inspired color you would would like on the eyelids, remember that you can use to start of with at least 2 tones on the eye lids to solidify that gyaru look.
- Start by using the end tip of the mascara to paint little blobs under your lashes first, then after carefully apply it over the whole length in a zig-zag motion
- Let it dry before you start blinking and smudging it everywhere (careful)
- Today’s style guide produces very tone down and much more adult gyaru makeup look!
